When the outside world is so big and full of surprises, the world within a child’s bedroom needs to feel as familiar as a favorite stuffed animal. There should be nothing pretentious about the design. Practicality guided designer JUDITH COHEN planned this room for young son. She needed a storage solution for his toys and books. With limited space to work with, she created a cozy built-in work and play area in front of the window. A countertop deep enough to fit a computer straddles base cupboards for storing clothes, games and school supplies. Bookshelves rise to the ceiling and another bookshelf takes advantage of the adjoining wall space.
